Oil Change

Pretty slick, isn’t it?

shutterstock_237366541The purpose of oil in your vehicle is to reduce friction between the engine components, and despite the best efforts of scientists, it still breaks down and needs to be replaced. Depending on your driving – whether pulling your trailer and toys around, driving in hard conditions, or just ushering the kids back and forth to school – your vehicle needs regular oil changes to keep it running at it’s optimum.

What do those numbers mean?

Many people are confused about the numbers that come with oil, but basically they are how thick the oil is at different temperatures. When an oil is thicker, it offers better protection, but it also reduces the efficiency – think running on the beach versus running through the water. When an oil has two numbers – 10W-40 for example – the 10W shows how thick the oil is when it’s cold (W=Winter…) and the other shows how thick the oil is at 100°C. The lower the “W” number the better the oil’s cold temperature/cold start performance.
